Hippie Birthday

I can't believe my oldest daughter hit double digits earlier this month. Here is the card I made for her 10th Birthday. She is very big time into Peace signs, smile faces, hearts, flowers and all things, well "hippie", so Hippie Anya was the perfect choice for her birthday card.

Since I didn't have an appropriate sentiment stamp, I created my own saying on the computer and after a bit of searching came up with the perfect font.

She absolutely loved the card ~ and that is what makes it all worthwhile!

This card is for the following challenges:
Just Christmas and Birthday Cards - sketch
Kaboodle Doodles - 1 solid cardstock, 2 patterned papers, 3 embellishments
Stamp Something - use a favorite sketch (I really like this sketch for larger images)

Card #1 Recipe~ all items SU unless indicated
Stamps: Hippie Anya (The Greeting Farm); Sentiment - Computer generated (LMS Hippy Chick font)
Ink/Coloring: Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics (E00, E01, E11, E25, E27, E29, R20, B21, B23, G21, G24, Y32, Y35, RV32, RV34, V93, V95)
Paper: Rose Red; Gina K Pure Luxury White; DP - DCWV (Blossoms and Butterflies)
Embellishments: Flowers (Bazzil); Rhinestone Brads (unknown)

Tools: EK Success Border Punch; Corner Rounder

And for some family updates......

Ashley started ballet and tap lessons this past week and was so excited ~ she had so much fun at her first class and loved shopping for her new dance wear! Of course that means one more thing to add to the calendar each week, but as long as she enjoys it ~ that's all that matters.

I had Alicia's Brownie troop bridging Ceremony this past week and they are now officially Junior Girl Scouts! I held it at a park, and was worried all day long as it was overcast and looked as though it could rain any minute, but lucky for us the weather held out, and there was no rain for the ceremony ~ always a nice thing, since wet soggy cake would not have been to appealing. It was a very nice way to begin the year.

Have a wonderful day :)

Shy Bear - Squigglefly

Five of the Squigglefly's design team have shy bear hiding out on their blogs. If you can find all five, go leave a comment on Holly's blog listing which five blogs you found them on. Monday (Sept 28th) afternoon one lucky person will be chosen by random.org, and if that commenter has all five blogs listed they will get to choose two of the new shy bear images and will also receive some goodies from Holly's stash. Happy hunting!

Modern Sugar Blvd New Releases

Earlier this week, I mentioned having something to share with you and here it is. On Sunday, Modern Sugar Blvd is having a mini release and here are two new images that will be available.

This image is Candle, and when I saw it, I thougt it would work well for Christmas (besides, I need to get some more Christmas cards done). I pulled out some scraps of Christmas paper and went to town. I wanted something behind the scalloped circle, so I tried something different and cut a square, and rounded the corners. I really like how it looks. My ribbon embellishment is also something new for me. I took a long piece of ribbon and folded it over back and forth, making each "layer" a bit shorter than the last and sewed it together with some embroidery floss. I then took a button, put some ribbon through it, tied it in a knot and then sewed it to the ribbon "bow".

Here is a close up of the ribbon:

This card is for the following challenges:
Allsorts - sketch and two color combo of your choice (Red and Green)
Flourishes Timeless Tuesday - "Mix it up" - use different patterns
My Time to Craft - "Polka Dot Party" - anything with spots or dots
Tuesday Morning Sketches - Ribbon

This next card uses the Work at Home Image.

Usually I look for DP in the colors I am planning on doing my card in, but for this image I chose the DP first ~ I love the colors and glitter in this DP. I just had to give her a pink chair ~ makes me want one, unfortunately, it would not fit in with our decor, so I'll just have to live vicariously through my coloring ;) I knew I had a sentiment that would work great for this image, so I dug through my Studio G sets and found the "chat*im*text" stamp.

And surprise ~ this card is not for any challenges ~ a rarity for me.

Be sure to stop by the other Sugars' blogs to see what they have created.

Have a wonderful day :)

Squigglefly Blog Hop

Welcome to the Squigglefly blog hop! If you just came across my post, please start over at Squigglefly and I'll be here when you return.

Today all of the DT members are showcasing images from Squigglefly's brand new illustrator Crissy Armstrong ~ aren't her images amazing!?! If you've seen High Hopes Stamps, her work may look familiar to you, as she was an illustrator for them. With so many wonderful images it was hard to narrow down which to use, so I ended up doing two cards.

First up is Roger and Jo ~ aren't they the most adorable little kitties ever!?!

I kept this card pretty simple as I wanted the image to stand out, and love how the charm looks in place of a sentiment stamp.

Next we have "Turkey" ~ I think he is so cute sitting there in his wagon amidst all those apples!
I had a lot of fun making this card. For the flower I tried something different. The button on top has a metal circle loop on the back back (did I mention it is really little?) and I threaded the ribbon through the loop three times to make it look like a bow (and let me tell you the third time through was difficult ~ it's a good thing I started with a really long piece of ribbon because the ends were shredded by the time I was done).

So do you love these images as much as I do? If your answer is YES, be sure to stop by and comment on all the DT members blogs, because one lucky winner will receive all 13 of Crissy's new images as well as some things from her personal stash that she generously donated. So what are you waiting for, get hopping and head on over to Stef ~ I'm sure she has something amazing to share with you!

If you get lost on the way, here is the master list of all the hop participants:

Squiggle Fly Challenge #19 and MSB update

It's Monday and that means another challenge over at Squigglefly. The challenge this week is to make a card with a Mellow Moss background, use no embellishments AND make your card 5x5. When I wrote down the challenge, I completely missed the size requirment ~ oops ~ and the ironic thing is, that for the most part, my cards are usually square (although I prefer 5 1/2 x 5 1/2). But no, this time I had to go and make a "normal size" card.

I have come to the conclusion that I need to invest in some more nesties one of these days. I only have two sets ~ the rectangles and scalloped rectangles which don't give me a whole lot of options ~ especially when I want circles and ovals on my card. Now only if I didn't have all these other bills.....

Come and play along with our challenge this week ~ we'd love to see what you come up with!

Please check back in with me on Friday as I will be taking part in the Squigglefly blog hop. We will be showcasing the new images being released on Saturday the 19th and you will also have a chance to win a grand prize that includes all 13 new images. Providing all goes well, I may even have a sneek peek or 2 for you before then....

This card also qualifies for the following challenges:
Charisma Cardz - Patchwork
Crafty Creations - Embossing
Cute Card Thursday - "Strawberry Mint Julep" - pink and green
My Time to Craft - "Polka Dot Party" - anything with dots or spots

Magnolia meets Mojo Monday

I feel like such a bad blogger and can't believe it has been so long since I posted. Since school has started I've been so busy, I can't believe it's almost been two weeks. I thought once they were all in school I was supposed to have more free time.....but it seems to be the opposite right now.

I received the Fall Kit from Magnolia stamps (my very first Magnolias I might add), and finally cut them apart ~ I know, I know, what on earth was I waiting for? Well, to be honest, I had never used "bare rubber" stamps before, only unmounted stamps with EZ Mount, so my intention was to put them on EZ mount before trimming. Well, it turns out I couldn't find it locally, so instead of ordering it and waiting longer, I decided to go ahead and try to use the stamps as is. I just put some double sided tape on my acrylic block, put the image on and stamped away. And you know what ~ to my amazement, they worked just fine!

I know she should probably be sitting "on" something, but I didn't want to use the rolling pin and really don't have anything else to use, so just pretend she's on a bench or a chair or......I guess something to sit on will have to be one of my next stamp purchases!

This card is for the following challenges:
Stamp Something - Use your favorite embellishment ~ this was a hard one, because I truly love so many different embellies! In the end I decided upon the new Prima flowers I got and added one of those (and I think these Dew drops are my favorite of all the colors since I only have about 20 left!).
Mojo Monday - sketch
Just Magnolia - Embossing
Crafty Creations - Embossing
Cute Card Thursday - "Strawberry Mint Julep" - use the colors pink and green

Recipe~ all items SU unless indicated
Stamps: Jam Tilda (Magnolia)
Ink/Coloring: Memento Tuxedo Black; Copics (E00, E01, E11, Y21, Y23, R20, RV000, RV00, RV10, RV11, R20, G20, G21)
Paper: Pink Pirouette, Certainly Celery; Gina K Pure Luxury White; DP - Basic Grey (Sultry)
Embellishments: Gingham Ribbon (Lt Pink); Dew Drops; Flower (Prima)

Tools: Martha Stewart Border Punch; Cuttlebug Embossing Folder (Textile)

Back to School....

I know a lot of people are happy that the kids are back in school, but I am not one of them. I really enjoy having my kids around, and now, not only did the three older kids head off to school, but my youngest started Kindergarten. Wow is the house quiet without all the kids running around and I sure miss them, and I really miss my little buddy who would cuddle up with me after the older kids got on the bus last year!

Here is my little man ready for his very first day of school:

Here are all 4 of the kids:
And we have a lot of kids in our little subdivision ~ here they all are waiting for the bus this morning while all the moms were busy snapping pics:

Now for some cards. Every year I make my kids cards for their first day of school and here are the cards I gave them this morning:

For Alicia my 4th grader:
Alicia loves the new Kiki La Rue stamps and I thought this image was the perfect back to school girl. I added rhinestones to her shoes her shirt (as well as all along the scalloped circle), put stickles on her barettes and on her sock ruffles, and used the color pink since that is Alicia's favorite color. Notice how you can see the "4th" on the black DP? I had to make sure I cut it just right so this would show up on the card since she is in 4th grade now.

This card qualifies for the following challenges:
Creative Card Crew ~ pink, black and white
Paper Play Challenges ~ "Back to School"
Pile It On ~ "Round"
Simon Says Stamps - "Back to School"

For Tyler my 3rd grader:
Tyler loves the color yellow, and I he loves dogs so I chose to use this cute image. No big embellishments here ~ I just wanted to keep it clean.

This card qualifies for the following challenges:
Stamp Something ~ "Animal Somethings"
One Stop Craft Challenge ~ "Cute and Cuddly"
Paper Play Challenges ~ "Back to School"
Pile It On ~ "Round"
Simon Says Stamps ~ "Back to School"

For Ashley my 1st grader:

Ashley loves the color purple and the color pink. Since purple paper just didn't look good with the DP (although the pink layer behind the image and the sentiment looks a bit purple in this picture), I decided to color the crayon purple and use pink paper. I thought this bunny image was too cute not to use.

This card qualifies for the following challenges:
Allsorts ~ No stamping - can use digital images/sentiments
Stamp Something ~ "Animal Somethings"
One Stop Craft Challenge ~ "Cute and Cuddly"
Paper Play Challenges ~ "Back to School"
Pile It On ~ "Round"
Simon Says Stamps ~ "Back to School"

For Trevor my kindergartener:Trevor's favorite color is green so I had to use that as my main color. I chose to use this image since the stamp is named "Trevor" ~ how appropriate! I still can't believe my little man is in school.....

Cute Card Thursdays ~ "New Beginnings" ~ I think this qualifies as a new beginning
Paper Play Challenges ~ "Back to School"
Simon Says Stamps ~ "Back to School"
