KLSNS Challenge #18

Yesterday all four of my kids came home with awards from school ~ how awesome is that!?!  Today brings another exciting day ~ Tyler gets to race his car in the Pine Wood Derby.  After I pick up Alicia from DI practice I think us girls will meet up with the boys and cheer Tyler on.

It is time for another challenge over at KLSNS!  This week the challenge was hosted by Kelly and she asked us to "Go Green" and use recycled items on our project.    

I decided to use a picture frame that was actually headed to Goodwill (silly me, why didn't I just take out what was inside of it and put it in my craft room in the first place?!?).  Since the frame had a floral border, I thought Spring would be a good theme.  I pulled out the CC Designs Sugarplums Spring kit which is a great deal ~ you get 9 of the adorable Sugarplum stamps, 2 accessory stamps and a set of Spring Sentiments for 25% off the retail price (available for a limited time).  For this project, I chose the girl, the tree stump and the happy spring sentiment.  The paper I used for the grass was recycled from a card that I previously made but did not ever see sending out, so instead of throwing it away, I re-purposed it.  The twill came off of a present and the butterflies were cut out of some packaging from my daughter's make-up.  The blue cardstock was sponged with white ink and then I added one layer of grass to it.  The tree stump and mushroom were added with the second layer of grass and then finally the girl.  I stamped the sentiment onto the twill ribbon and added that to the bottom.  Since the frame was so decorative, I kept embellishments to a bare minimum.

Spring Ducks

I had this image colored for almost a week now and have been meaning to make it into a card for the Clearly Delightful challenge which was to use a duck image.  

Instead of faux stitching like I normally do, I decided to try and use real stitching.  While my lines are pretty straight, I don't like the corners.  I definitely need more practice to try and figure out how to make the corners more square, and to figure out how to end the thread without going over the edge...but hey, it's a start, and for my first time, I'm pretty happy with it.  The satin bow was made with my bow easy and then I threaded some organdy through the center and then through a button and tied that in a bow.  I wish I knew where the image came from, but unfortunately I don't have any clue (it was just saved as ducks on my computer over a year ago).  Of course the image was colored with my copics.

Soft Pencil Thursday

This week we were challenged to make something other than a card using the Bichitos Set.  This set comes with so many adorable images ~ butterflies, a dragonfly, a snail, a caterpillar and this cute ladybug that I used to make a little wall hanging for my very own Love Bug.

I started out using a large coaster and covered it with a cardstock circle bordered with none other than my Martha Stewart border punch.  I saw someone else had done this with this punch, so I had to play around with it a bit, but it is really easy to do and I LOVE how it looks!  I colored the image with copics and highlighted it with Dazzling Diamonds.  Instead of using the antennae that comes with the image, I used some beaded wire sticks (heck if I know what they are really called LOL!), bent them and attached them to the back of the ladybug's head.  The entire image was then put on with dimensionals.  The letter beads (which were colored with a copic) are wired alternately with black beads.  I finally got ahold of a Bow Easy (and yes it is!) this weekend so I used it for the bow and added a charm that was also colored with a copic.  I can't wait to share this with my daughter!

Stampin N Scrappin With Jodi

Today is my turn in the KLSNS Stampin N' Scrappin spotlight and I have an Easel Card tutorial to share with you.  These are really easy to make, but turn an ordinary card into an extraordinary card!

For my project I used the new CC Designs stamp Trevor from the Sugarplums Party set and Lime Rickey Paper from Basic Grey. 

To start off, you will need the following supplies:

1 piece of Cardstock 5 1/2" x 5 1/2"

1 piece of Cardstock 11" x 5 1/2"

Scoring Tool

Strong Adhesive

Extra cardstock/designer paper for both the front and inside of the card 

Stamps, Ink and Embellishments

Take the 11" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock and score it at 2 3/4" and 5 1/2"

Fold the cardstock at the 5 1/2" score line first (folding the card in half).  Next fold the 2 3/4" score line in the opposite direction.  It should look like this when done:

Decorate the card front (the 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" piece of cardstock) as well as the inside of the card.  For the inside, add an extra layer ~ in this case I used the wavy punched layer ~ an embellishment (buttons, brads, dew drops, flowers etc.) or even a sentiment placed on dimensionals in order for the front of the card to have something to rest against.

I paper pieced my image and shadowed some of it with copics.  The balloon was paper pieced and then covered in Crystal Effects.

 

Place adhesive on the  2 3/4" x 5 1/2" end flap as shown:

 

Line up the top of the card front with the top of the 2 3/4" x 5 1/2" section and adhere together.

TGF Vintage

The Greeting Farm's Farm Fresh Friday challenge this week is vintage, so I decided to combine it with the blog hop sketch challenge for Stamp Scrap and Doodle.  

I generally use images of people, so I thought I would change it up and use a floral instead.  I tried a few new things on this card.  The first is the cracked glass technique ~ I have always wanted to do it, but never tried it until now ~ I thought it would be good for a vintage feel.  The second new thing I tried was making my own flower ~ I really like how it turned out!  However, I cannot see actually mailing a card with one of these on it since it sits very high up.  The pin is from my collection of vintage items and I added 3 vintage beads to it before placing it behind the flower.  The edges of the DP are distressed and then sponged with creamy caramel ink.

KLSNS Challenge #17

It is time for another challenge over at KLSNS!  This week the challenge was hosted by Kathy and she gave us the color combo of Red, Black and White.  

For my card I decided to use Queen of Hearts from CC Designs.  She was colored in with copics and cut out with nesties.  Her crown was colored with a metallic spica pen and the hearts on it were covered in stickles.  The scattered hearts on the upper portion of the card were "scraps" from the border punch I used.

Valentine Box

Trevor, my youngest, needed to make a Valentine box for the Valentine's he will be receiving at his class party and this is what we came up with.

We decided to use a shoe box ~ although he wasn't all too happy it had Dora on it!  I had intended on using a shimmery foil red wrapping paper, but then remembered I ended up using it all at Christmas time.  So, Trevor picked out the adorable Froggy paper from the K & Company Ka-Zoo stack and then the red and white polka dot paper from a Provo Craft Christmas Stack.  I "wrapped" the bottom of the box and then the top of the box separately.  Red ribbon was added around the edge of the cover.  It looked too plain, so I added a bow.  I used my nesties to cut a heart and wrote his name on it with a white gel pen.  To tie in to the top of the box, I cut out a few frogs from the DP and added them to the bottom portion of the box and in the center of the bow.  It was hard to leave it as is, and I really wanted to add more, but I didn't want it to look too girly, so I left it alone.  He likes it this way, so that's all that matters.  You will notice there is no slot cut on the top ~ he did not want one because it would "ruin" his box so he will just take off the cover when it is time for the exchange.
